Grupa LOTOS and Sustainable Development Goals
LOTOS, as a responsible company with a strategic approach to sustainable development management, also takes into account the social and environmental context in its activities. The result of our approach is commitment to supporting the achievement of selected Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as announced by the United Nations.
Key Sustainable Development Goals from the perspective of the LOTOS Group
We have been a leader in the implementation of a sustainable approach to business activities for a long time. We could not miss such an important aspect as cooperation for the planet we share and the future of the next generations, either. Through our actions, we want to set an example for other companies, our employees and our customers, showing them that working together to achieve a sustainable future is worthwhile. This is the vision assumed in Sustainable Development Goals.
The pillars of our strategic approach to sustainable development are:
As one of strategic companies for the Polish economy, the LOTOS Group has a very prominent direct and indirect impact on its environment. It is vital for LOTOS that business activities take into account the needs of society and the environmental challenges present in impact areas. We are the second largest fuel company in Poland and we are crucial for the country as an employer, taxpayer, sponsor, donor and partner for numerous suppliers, institutions and organisations. We cooperate with small and medium-sized entrepreneurs. As a stable employer in the region, LOTOS provides jobs to many residents around our production plants. In addition, by cooperating with counterparties from the region, we contribute to the construction and maintenance of workplaces for our business partners. We are a very important taxpayer in the regions under our influence. For years, we have been contributing to the budget of Gdańsk by paying taxes to the city’s treasury. In 2019, this amount was PLN 189,941,000, while in 2020 — the amount of taxes stood at PLN 213,216,000.
At the same time, we are striving to contribute to sustainable resolution of social and environmental issues that are important for stakeholders. Among others, in terms of the environmental aspect, new, green investments contribute to climate improvement. For example, the implementation of the LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) programme for the detection and repair of leaks within the production installations and construction of a new VRU (vapour recovery unit) installation for the recovery of vapours from tanker loading arms ensure better control and reduction of fugitive emissions of hydrocarbons into the air.
LOTOS Group companies are also intensively engaged in activities for the environment. Together with the residents of neighbouring cities and towns, they form a community that very often integrates business, local authorities and higher education. Such initiatives bring long-term benefits to all participants of the relationship.
